A lot of my clients take family photos but then don’t know what to do with them afterwards. That’s why I created this list of 7 practical ways to preserve your family photos so that you can have these photos to pass down to future generations.
Create digital and/ or physical photo albums- If you’ve done a professional photoshoot, chances are you’ve acquired the digitals. Nowadays, it’s very easy to scan these items into a website album generator and then create an album that you can physically print. You can also check with your photographer as he/ she may also be able to make the album for you, saving you precious time.
Give a copy to other family members abroad- Some of your family couldn’t make it to the family photoshoot. That’s ok! Give them a gift showing the family in all your glory and hopefully they could make the next family photoshoot. Plus, they have a fun memory of everyone.
Create home videos– I’m not talking about the home videos with the home video camera (although I love those types of home movies.) I’m talking about creating slideshows and creating keepsakes for yourself or to give as a gift to a loved one.
Make Wall Art– The most common form of using your digital images (and popularized by us photographers) is making wall art. Canvases, Metal prints, Acrylics, etc. These images look great as pieces to furnish your home with!
Use your printed photos for a scrapbook– When I sat down and looked at my parent’s photo album, they were all loose 4×6 prints that went under a thin piece of plastic paper that held them in place. (Many of you would remember that static would build on the plastic and it would add just a tiny bit of friction when trying to change out the pictures. I digress.) In the same manner, take your loose prints and tape, or paste, them on the pages of a book to create a book that you can pass onto the next generation.
Print the images, cut them out, and engage in an activity making a family tree– An activity that’s very fun for the young ones and teaches them who is in your family lineage. Cheaper than ancestry.com (lol)
Order mementos of the picture(s)- You may want to consult your photographer on this one. There are so many different small trinkets you can use your picture with- from lockets, to bracelets, to statues, to pillows, to even pens and calendars with pictures of you or your loved ones on it. Perfect way to preserve a picture throughout the years.
